How It All Started: From Africa to Your Cutting Board
So, let me take you back a bit. The idea for this paring knife didn’t just come out of thin air. It all began with a knife I carried while I was in Africa.
This wasn’t your run-of-the-mill blade—it was made by Half Face Blades, a veteran-owned company out of California. I’ll be honest, when I first saw the price tag, I hesitated. But once I got my hands on it, I knew it was worth every penny. This knife was sharp—like shave-your-arm-hair sharp—and it quickly became my go-to for everything.
After using it day in and day out, I started thinking, “What if we made a kitchen knife with this kind of craftsmanship?” Something that felt just as good in the kitchen as it did out in the wild. So, I reached out to Andrew and his team at Half Face Blades, and that’s where this whole journey kicked off.
Designing the Perfect Knife
When we started working on this paring knife, we didn’t want to settle for anything less than perfect.
We teamed up with Half Face Blades to get every detail just right, from the full tang blade to the walnut handle, held together with brass bolts that add a touch of class.
And the blade? It’s stonewashed, giving it that tough, rugged look while still being practical and easy to care for.
We also added some of our signature touches—like the blue and gold colors that run through the handle, and of course, the “Made in America” stamp that we’re so proud of.
This knife is all about quality, from tip to handle and is made for versatility.
Now, you might be thinking,
“Dude, it’s a paring knife. How much can it really do?”
More Than Just a Paring Knife
Well, let me tell you, this little knife has surprised me more times than I can count. Whether I’m slicing lemons at the bar or prepping dinner in the kitchen, this knife has become my go-to tool.
It’s not just great for small tasks—it’s tough enough for big jobs too. I’ve used it for everything from filleting fish to carving up a smoked venison shoulder, and it handles it all like a champ. The balance, the sharpness, the way it feels in your hand—it just works.

🔪 One Knife to Rule Them All: 15 Ways to Use Your Paring Knife
Whether you're prepping for a cocktail party or a gourmet dinner, this knife is the only tool you’ll need.
1. Filleting Fish
Yes, even a paring knife can take on delicate tasks like filleting small to medium-sized fish. Its sharp blade and precise control help you glide through the flesh, making clean cuts close to the bone.
2. Carving Up Steaks or Roasts
While a paring knife isn’t typically a carving knife, it’s perfect for trimming fat or silver skin from cuts of meat. Its sharp point allows for precise cuts when cleaning up your steak or roast before cooking.
3. Slicing Citrus for Cocktails
Whether you’re garnishing a whiskey sour or prepping lemon wedges for a gin and tonic, the paring knife shines at thinly slicing citrus and creating perfect wedges, twists, and peels for cocktail garnishes.
4. Peeling Fruits and Vegetables
From apples to carrots, a paring knife handles all your peeling needs with ease. Its sharp blade is perfect for getting just under the skin without removing too much flesh, whether you’re preparing a pie or prepping veggies.
5. Segmenting Citrus
For making fruit salads or garnishing drinks, your paring knife excels at peeling and segmenting oranges, grapefruits, and other citrus fruits without the pith, leaving you with beautifully clean slices.
6. Mincing Garlic and Herbs
Your paring knife can mince garlic, ginger, or any fresh herbs like basil, cilantro, and thyme. Its small size and sharp blade allow for fine chopping that releases the most flavor in your dishes.
7. Slicing and Dicing Vegetables
Whether you're making thin slices of cucumber for salads or dicing onions for a sauté, the paring knife provides precision when you need control over those finer cuts.
8. Coring and Seeding Fruits and Veggies
Whether it's removing the core from an apple or scooping out seeds from a bell pepper or tomato, the paring knife’s sharp point lets you get into tight spaces with ease.
9. Hulling Strawberries and De-seeding Chilies
For smaller tasks like removing strawberry stems or the seeds from spicy peppers, the paring knife makes quick work of the job with minimal waste.
10. Trimming Dough and Pastries
Perfect for fine pastry work, a paring knife can cleanly trim excess dough from the edges of your pie crusts or pastries, ensuring that your baked goods look as sharp as they taste.
11. Deveining Shrimp
The small but mighty paring knife can easily slice along the back of shrimp and pull out the vein, making it ideal for seafood prep that requires attention to detail.
12. Shaving Chocolate and Hard Cheese
Need some beautiful, fine shavings of chocolate or Parmesan for a dessert or pasta dish? Your paring knife allows for smooth, delicate slices that are perfect for presentation.
13. Cutting Small Pastries or Sandwiches
If you’re serving appetizers or finger sandwiches, a paring knife makes neat, clean cuts, ensuring your presentation stays on point without squashing the ingredients.
14. Scoring Meat or Bread
Before cooking, use your paring knife to score the surface of meat or bread dough. For meat, this helps marinades penetrate; for bread, it allows steam to escape for a perfect crust.
15. Opening Packages or Removing Labels
Not every job is glamorous! But when you're in the kitchen, your paring knife can be the quick go-to tool for opening stubborn packages or slicing off labels, saving you from rummaging for scissors.
